Co-Ed Charity game hosted in Las Vegas

Hoops for Friends, a basketball organization that hosts an annual adult tournament in Las Vegas, hosted a co-ed charity basketball game on Friday, September 10, 2011 to benefit the Budokan of Los Angeles.

Veterans of the Japanese Basketball Community gathered to play in a friendly game before their tournament games began. This charity game occurs every year, and normally the two teams will choose a charity of their choice and 2/3 of the proceeds will go to the winner of the game's choice and 1/3 of the proceeds will go to the other charity. But this year there was a unanimous agreement that all of the proceeds from this years game would go to the Budokan of Los Angeles (BoLA). It was a very friendly, but competitive game that was for a great cause.

Many thanks to Hoops for Friends and everyone who participated, the BoLA team will forever be grateful for your generosity!

What is a Budokan?

Budokan roughly translates as "martial arts hall" in Japanese. The name is derived from the Nippon Budokan, a large arena in Central Tokyo, Japan. The arena was originally constructed for judo competition during the 1964 Summer Olympics, but today serves as a multi-purpose facility that caters to sports, entertainment and other activities. Currently in the United States, there are numerous budokans which serve as multi-purpose centers for martial arts, team sports such as basketball and volleyball, community activities and other special events.
